My Emotions was formed in Finland in 2017. The five-piece band combined electronic textures, 1980s synth-wave influences, alternative rock, and a melodic, often melancholic style. Aija “Aikku” Lumén was the lead singer and second guitarist. Eke played guitar and sang backing vocals, Mira played bass, Elli played keyboards and sang backing vocals, and Tume played drums and occasionally added lower, rougher backing vocals.

During its first years, My Emotions gradually built a growing audience and an active live schedule. The COVID-19 pandemic brought live performances to an almost complete stop and forced the band into an unplanned break. With touring impossible, the members spent their time writing, arranging, and recording new material.

Wrong Time was created during that period and later became one of My Emotions’ best-known songs. Its darker, heavily synthesizer-driven sound also influenced the direction the band took in the years after the pandemic.

Once live performances resumed, the band’s audience continued to grow. By 2024, My Emotions was clearly on the rise. Its spring and summer schedule was exceptionally busy: most concerts were in Finland, with additional appearances in Sweden and Norway. Travel, rehearsals, performances, interviews, and rapidly growing expectations made the year increasingly demanding at the same time.

As the summer progressed, it began to look as if the band was moving beyond the Finnish club circuit toward wider international visibility. The concert at New Century Hall in Manchester on 24 August 2024 strongly reinforced that impression. It was widely seen as a sign that My Emotions was beginning to move onto larger international stages.

That was why the band’s announcement that its planned autumn concerts had been cancelled and that it was going on hiatus came as a surprise to its audience. The Manchester performance became the band’s final concert before the break. The hiatus was not announced as a breakup, and the touring schedule had originally been expected to continue through the autumn.

The band’s final hit was More Than My Name. It was also the last song Aija performed as a member of My Emotions.

In November 2024, Aija told the band’s manager that she was leaving for the north for an indefinite period. She gave no timetable for returning. The hiatus remained open-ended, and My Emotions did not return to its former activity.
