Aija
- Born
- 1992.
- Character
- Fair-minded
Aija’s natural hair color is dark brown, but she dyed it a deep gray-blue at a time when much of her life no longer felt like her own. She prefers black, gray, worn denim, and clothes that let her remain unobtrusive. Attention does not come naturally to her, even though music has taken her onto concert stages.
Aija has been unusually sensitive to other people’s emotions since childhood. As an adult, she has learned to recognize that sensitivity and build boundaries around it, but in large crowds and while performing, the emotions of others can still become overwhelming.
For Aija, music is a way to give emotion a beginning, tension, and resolution. Over time, however, it has also become work, accompanied by releases, plays, shares, and visibility. Her exhaustion with that world leads her to leave schedules behind and travel to the Lofoten Islands.
Soon after arriving in Norway, Aija meets Sigrid Nilsen. They quickly become friends and begin making music together in Sigrid’s small studio in an old fish-processing building near the harbor. With Sigrid, Aija does not need to explain her sensitivity or treat music as something to be performed as a task.
