Ingrid Halvorsen was born in 1989. She studied geophysics at UiT The Arctic University of Norway in Tromsø and, while still a student, increasingly focused on geomagnetism, the ionosphere, and Arctic measurement systems.

Before graduating, Ingrid was already involved in significant research projects. Her work included analyzing long measurement series and comparing small anomalies, easily dismissed as noise, with wider field phenomena. She earned an early reputation for noticing structure where automated analysis or an initial interpretation found nothing remarkable.

After graduating in 2015, Ingrid spent a year in the United States at Harvard University’s Earth and Planetary Sciences unit in an international research environment. The period reinforced a principle that became central to her work: an anomalous observation should not be discarded merely because no suitable model yet exists for it.

After returning to Norway, Ingrid settled in Tromsø and continued working with Arctic geophysics and geomagnetic and ionospheric observations. Her records, reports, and measurement data are expected to be in order. She distinguishes carefully between observation, interpretation, and hypothesis and wants to know what the data actually shows before drawing a conclusion.

With people she does not yet know, Ingrid speaks very directly and factually. This can make her seem distant or dry, though it is not coldness. She recognizes competence quickly and respects careful work without making much of that respect outwardly.
